Sarah Harangody, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon who focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the bones, joints, and muscles, with a special interest in sports medicine.
As an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Harangody's goals are two-fold: to help relieve pain and get patients back to activities they enjoy. “Whether you’re a running back on your school’s football team and want to get back to competition after an ACL tear, or you hope to garden without shoulder pain from arthritis, I’m here to help,” she says. “Involving patients in their care is of the utmost importance so that we can work together to achieve mobility goals.”

Palos Health Logo showing on screen:
I chose to become an orthopaedic surgeon because I really enjoy doing surgery that helps relieve patient's pain and improve their function. I like being able to fix a problem. I like taking care of patients of all ages from all walks of life. I also enjoy caring for athletes and I was one myself. As an athlete, I think you develop a special relationship with the human body and that has carried itself over into my sports practice.
Orthopaedic Surgery text appears on screen:
I treat patients with a wide variety of conditions. I specialize in arthroscopic knee surgery, including
ACL reconstructions, meniscus repair and cartilage restoration. I also specialize in arthroscopic surgery in the shoulder and open shoulder surgery. That includes rotator cuff repairs, labral repair and shoulder replacements. I also treat shoulder instability. I like to treat people of all age groups from high school athletes up to grandma who has shoulder arthritis.
Doctor with patient:
My goal in taking care of patients is two-fold. I want to help relieve their pain and get them back to the activities they enjoy doing. If you're the top running back on your team and want to get back to high level competition after an ACL tear or if you want to be able to garden without shoulder pain from arthritis, I'm here to help.
Involving patients in their care is of the utmost importance to mutually achieve our goals and get them back to the life they enjoy living.
Doctor with patient:
My goal is to discuss both non-operative and operative treatments with patients. I never rush a patient into surgery and the decision is always mutual. It is important to me that patients understand the reasoning behind my recommendations for surgery and that there is shared decision making.
Patients should come see me when an injury is affecting their quality of life and they want to get back to doing what makes them happy.
