Palos Medical Group Physician Receives Honorary Degree From AAFP

Kudirka, M.D.

Palos Medical Group of Orland Park would like to congratulate Primary Care Physician Andrius Kudirka, M.D., F.A.A.F.P, on his achievement in earning the Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the national medical association that represents more than 100,000 family physicians, residents and medical students nationwide. The degree was conferred on Dr. Kudirka during the AAFP’s annual meeting in Orlando, FL, in September.

Established in 1971, the AAFP Degree of Fellow recognizes family physicians who have distinguished themselves through service to family medicine, ongoing professional development and community service. Dr. Kudirka is a dedicated family physician who is committed to helping others throughout the community. For the past 10 years, he has volunteered his time to care for patients at a south suburban shelter for homeless people. He mentors medical students and nurse practitioner students at his clinic, and he writes numerous newspaper articles and hosts a medical podcast for the Lithuanian community.

“This is a tremendous honor because I truly love the specialty of family practice,” says Dr. Kudirka, “and I continually strive to uphold the ideal of the family physician as a pillar of the community. I am grateful to be recognized by my colleagues and the American Association of Family Practice, an organization that fights for patient rights and works to improve the standards of medicine nationwide.”

Criteria for receiving the AAFP Degree of Fellow consist of a minimum of six years of membership in the organization, extensive continuing medical education, participation in public service programs outside medical practice, conducting original research and serving as a teacher in family medicine. AAFP Fellowship entitles the physician to use the honorary designation Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, or F.A.A.F.P.

Dr. Kudirka lives with his family in Orland Park, and he has been affiliated with Palos Community Hospital since 2005. He received his medical degree from Loyola University-Stritch School of Medicine and completed his residency at UIC-Advocate Christ Family Practice.
