Carmelita Torres, M.D., specializes in all areas of obstetrics and gynecology, and treats a broad range of women’s health issues in patients of all ages. She has special interests in abnormal bleeding, abnormal pap smears, well woman care, hysteroscopy and pregnancy.
Dr. Torres’ philosophy of care is based on giving patients the same level of understanding, concern and respect that she would wish to receive. "I believe in partnering with patients through all stages of life to give optimum care through communication and education."
Dr. Torres comes to PMG with 14 years of experience as an obstetrician and gynecologist. She graduated from the Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and completed her residency at John A. Burns School of Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology in Honolulu, HI.

I became a doctor because I really wanted to make a difference. I get to take care of women when they’re younger and as they transition and go through having babies

and then menopause. Um, I think it’s a really fun part of my job. I get to see women throughout their lives and help through each phase

I would like to explain things to patients in a way that they can understand and I want them to tell me that they understand what we’re talking about, and I just want to be their partner in the decisions they they’re going to make for their own health care.

Women should start seeing an obstetrician when they have issues, so I usually tell people that

21 is when we start doing screening exams such as pap smears. I see girls younger than 21 sometimes if they have issues with their periods, um, painful periods, any of those, um, problems. One thing that I really, uh, love seeing is now--being in practice for

as long as I have--is seeing my patients come back with their daughters and now I’m seeing their daughters in the office as well and taking care

school and then Hawaii for residency, and then I decided to come back.
