Bio

Megan DeJong, M.D., is an obstetrician and gynecologist who treats a broad range of women’s health issues in patients of all ages. Her areas of interest include general obstetrics and pregnancy, abnormal vaginal bleeding, cervical cancer prevention, and robotic and minimally invasive surgery. She also is certified in the practice of robotic surgery.

At the core of Dr. DeJong’s philosophy of care is the patient. “Most women spend their whole lives taking care of their families,” she says. “It is a special privilege to care for and empower these women. I may meet a young woman when she comes in for her first gynecological exam, take care of her through the birth of her first child and then follow her into menopause. I have the opportunity to grow with my patients and really get to know them, and one of my guiding principals is to listen before I speak. Every story is different and every patient should be treated as an individual.”

Dr. DeJong comes to Palos Medical Group from Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, where she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology. She received her medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. DeJong was born into a family of physicians and raised right here in Orland Park.

Dr. DeJong’s office is located in the Palos Primary Care Center, 15300 West Avenue, Orland Park. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact Palos Medical Group at (708) 590-5304.

Doctor meeting with patient:
I became a doctor, probably the biggest influence was my father. He’s been, uh, uh, a physician in the community for over 30 years, so I think I was born into it a little bit, and I had a great role model.

Obstetrics & Gynecology on screen:

There’s nothing like seeing a baby be born, there’s there’s nothing more interesting or more exciting than that.

Doctor on screen:

However we see women in so many walks of life, they’re all exciting in different ways. Um, we see women, you know, for their first pap smear and they’re terrified, it’s nice to be able to give them, uh, just encouragement and, and information and, uh, make them feel at ease like we’re here to help them.

Doctor examining patient:

Uh, we see women developing throughout their lives and see them in different roles and different responsibilities, um, we get to follow them, we get to see, uh, mothers and daughters and it’s just, a, it’s a really diverse specialty.

Philosophy of Care on screen:

I really believe it’s important to listen to the patient. My father told me once when I was first starting out that if you listen hard enough the patient will always give you the answer. So it’s really, um, important to me to hear the story and to hear not only the physical symptoms but where it’s coming from in their lives and how, um, we can work best to, to, help alleviate any issues that they’re having.

Palos Medical Group on screen:

Um, I’ve seen this practice grow from one patient room, two patients a day, to

Doctor examining patient:

multiple providers, um, help hundreds of women. I really do feel like growing up in this community makes me a part of the community. Palos has, uh, been so

Doctor talking on screen:

special to me I even delivered my own children here. I think the quality of care is exceptional. My birth experiences for both of my children were, um, more than I could ever ask for. And the community at Palos really, um, is what contributes to that special care.
