Nittor Jayaram is a board-certified doctor of internal medicine and endocrinology. He specializes in the treatment of several conditions, including diabetes as well as thyroid and pituitary disorders.
“I am a strong believer in the power of knowledge as a tool for promoting collaboration,” says Dr. Jayaram. “I empower my patients through education. I have found that the more they know about their condition and the medications used to treat it, the more prepared they are to discuss treatment strategies and to manage their health.”
Dr. Jayaram has been in practice for more than 35 years. He graduated from Bangalore Medical College in India. He completed his residency at the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, New York, and his fellowship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
My name is Nittor Jayaram, my specialty is endocrinology.

Doctor meeting with patient:
I became a doctor because when I was fairly young--including my mother but most importantly her side of the family--people had significant illness. They had a lot of difficulty in trying to get some help with the physicians that they were supposed to be seeing, and somewhere along the line I said there has to be a better way than this.
I really enjoy the fact that you are helping somebody in however little it may be and essentially you know, what they call, like, a job satisfaction when you help and especially when you see them in follow up and then they tell you that things are a little bit on the better side, so it makes you happy. And of course, once you get used to that that becomes your main focus.
Endocrinology on screen:

Doctor meeting with patient:
or overactive thyroid. Outside of that, uh, the other common issues that we see would be related to, um, obesity. People are always concerned that there is a problem in their hormones and they want to evaluate it. And then, um,
as far as women are concerned, issues as far as, um, what we call, uh, abnormal hormone production, especially like abnormal male hormone production.

Empowering the patient. By that I mean, I have,
Doctor talking with patient:
over the years, over the almost 40 years, uh, I have realized the more the patients know about their problems and also the options that are available, whether, you know, to the first part of the treatment
Uh, uh, it’s better for both the doctor and the, the patient. And I have realized for the 40 years that the more they know they come back with really, really valid questions.
