Doctor talking:
I chose to become an orthopedic surgeon because I like to help improve patients’ pain and function. I like fixing a problem. I enjoy the surgeries involved with improving patients’ lives. I like taking care of patients of all ages from all walks of life. I also enjoy caring for athletes and I was one myself. As an athlete, I think you develop a special relationship with the human body and that has carried itself over into my sports practice.

Orthopaedic Surgery text appears on screen:
I specialize in arthroscopic knee surgery, including ACL reconstructions, meniscus repair and cartilage restoration.

Doctor talking:
I also specialize in arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery including rotator cuff repairs, labral repair, treating shoulder instability and shoulder replacements. I like to treat people of all age groups, from high school athletes up to grandma who has shoulder arthritis.

Doctor with patient:
My goal in taking care of patients is two-fold. I want to help relieve their pain and get them back to the activities they enjoy doing. Involving patients in their care is of the utmost importance to mutually achieve our goals and get them back to the life they enjoy living.

Doctor talking:
If you're the top running back on your team and want to get back to high level competition after an ACL tear or if you want to be able to garden without shoulder pain from arthritis, I'm here to help. Additionally, I like to discuss both non-operative and operative treatments with patients. I never rush a patient into surgery and the decision is always mutual. If possible I try to treat patients with conservative therapy. However, sometimes surgery is necessary. It is important to me that patients understand the reasoning behind my recommendations for surgery and that there is shared decision making.

Doctor with patient:
I also like to make sure that patients understand what their recovery  will be like and take an active role in it.

Caring for Athletes text appears on screen:
Caring for athletes is a very rewarding part of my job. Athletes have high demands and expectations, but they also have the

capability to achieve excellent  results after surgery. They are often very motivated to participate in their own recovery. I have a lot of experience with athletes. I was a Division I volleyball player, and since my playing days I have cared for a variety of athletes from the high school level  to community college, Division III schools, small Division I schools all the way up to the Ohio State Buckeyes and professional athletes. I completed my sports medicine fellowship at Ohio State and while there I was the head team physician for my own high school football team and played an active role as team physician for a local Division III school as well as for the Ohio State football and men's hockey teams.

Doctor with patient:
I have a vested interest in helping athletes reach their goals and getting them to return to sport in a safe and timely manner.
