Palos Health’s Diabetes & Nutrition program helps you achieve your dietary and lifestyle goals for a variety of conditions, including all types of diabetes. We provide a nurturing environment that allows for realistic and gradual modifications, emotional support and the education necessary to help you progress and reach your personal objectives. Through private, in-depth counseling sessions with a registered dietitian, we help address all of your specific concerns.

Diabetes Counseling and Education

The American Diabetes Association–recognized program at Palos Health instructs patients and family members on the prevention and management of diabetes, including type 1, type 2, gestational and pre-diabetes. You will learn how to maintain a proper exercise routine and develop a nutritionally balanced diet that will assist in regulating your weight and blood sugar level.

Our team offers counseling and education to those with diabetes or at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. You’ll benefit from our extensive system-wide resources that include:

Nutrition Counseling

Nutrition encompasses food and eating as well as overall health and wellness. To help with issues ranging from food-related allergies to disease-related concerns, Palos Health’s outpatient nutrition counseling will work with you to help modify your lifestyle for the long term to help support your goals.

Nutrition counseling covers a variety of topics including:

  • Cardiac nutrition
  • Eating disorders
  • Gastrointestinal disorders, such as Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Diverticulitis
  • Cancer (prevention, during and after treatment)
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Vegetarian/vegan nutrition
  • Nutrition for all stages of life (2+ years of age)

Our registered dietitians will conduct a nutritional assessment and customize an eating plan and lifestyle modifications based on your medical history and nutrition goals.
