Palos Health's Pulmonary Rehabilitation program. As an intensive, medically supervised exercise experience, the program combines skilled credentialed professional staff with the latest exercise technology to help you reach your best possible pulmonary potential.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Optimize understanding of disease, medication and treatments
  • Decrease participants' feelings of shortness of breath
  • Increase level of exercise
  • Improve quality of life
  • Decrease the stress of living with pulmonary disease

As a participant in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, you will work side-by-side licensed physical therapists and Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) from Palos Health. We use sophisticated exercise technology including  Fitlinxx computerized monitoring and Cybex progressive resistance machines. The Fitlinxx tracking system, linked to cardiovascular and strength training equipment, helps us monitor your progress, guide your workout and store your results, which are forwarded to your physician on a regular basis.

You will begin the program with a comprehensive evaluation. This will assist our physician in approving a safe, personalized and effective exercise prescription. Ongoing evaluations will occur both during and at the end of your program to ensure and document progress.

In addition to the medically supervised exercise component, professionals in the fields of nutrition, pharmacy, behavioral health, pastoral care, respiratory care, and health and fitness provide educational lectures weekly. Special exercise classes are held monthly during scheduled rehab hours, allowing you to experience a variety of exercise options. Friends and family are encouraged to attend these lectures and specialty classes.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday, typically for an eight-week duration. Upon completion of the program, several options for continued fitness are available depending on your need.
