Palos High Risk Breast Clinic
The Women’s Center at the Palos Health South Campus in Orland Park now offers a High Risk Breast Clinic, available to women who have a higher than average risk of developing breast cancer in their lifetime, due either to health or family history factors.
The clinic helps women to determine their breast cancer risk and provides guidance for cancer prevention and risk reduction if needed. Under the guidance of an experienced breast health specialist, patients are evaluated, and as appropriate, a personally tailored plan encompassing screening, prevention and treatment is developed.
Who is a candidate?
The clinic is open to all women who believe they may be at a higher risk for the development of breast cancer. Former breast cancer patients or women who are found to have a greater than 20% lifetime risk of acquiring cancer are also candidates.
High Risk Factors
Patients with one or more of the following risk factors may be referred to the clinic:
- Dense breast tissue
- Family history of cancer
- Personal history of cancer
- History of atypical cancer
- Genetic mutations, including the BRCA (BReast CAncer susceptibility) gene
What are the benefits?
Patients meet with a breast care specialist who will help determine the treatment and education services that will be most helpful in managing your care. Services may include:
- Assessment of breast cancer risk
- Creation of individualized imaging surveillance plan
- Access to genetic counselors and testing
