Notes for Palos Staff*:
*Some letters have been edited for space.
I want to thank the nurses, ICU staff and doctors who treated me at Palos Hospital during my battle with Covid-19. You all did an amazing job. I was admitted to the hospital on March 22nd and put on a ventilator two days later. Because of the Coronavirus and medication, I do not remember much regarding my stay at Palos. I have since learned about it and the excellent patient care I received through my wife, Kathy, and Doctor Phil Gracias, who performed my tracheostomy, along with Doctor Nahhas. Because I was still testing positive for Covid-19 at that time, my wife told me that both Dr. Gracias and Dr. Nahhas took a significant risk to perform the procedure and I will always be grateful that they took their Hippocratic Oath to heart. Doctors Nahhas and Aldaas were my pulmonologists and Dr. Regan was my hospitalist, among others. My wife told me that they all gave me exceptional care and communicated with her on a daily basis. The staff not only helped me survive Covid-19, but they comforted my wife by taking the time to keep her up to date regarding my status, setbacks, and progress. The ICU nurses understood what a strain it was on my family because they could not visit me so they put their cell phones by me so that my wife and adult children could talk to me, even though I was on the ventilator and did not consciously hear them. Their kindness was as extraordinary as their nursing skills. By the time I was transferred to Shirley Ryan Ability Lab for physical therapy, the doctors there were calling me a “miracle,” after reviewing my charts and seeing my improved condition - particularly my vocal cords, which were not damaged at all after being on a ventilator for almost six (6) weeks. I realize that Covid-19 has placed numerous restrictions on visits to hospitals and that I may have to wait a while to visit the ICU nurses and the doctors who treated me, but I hope to do so. I will be forever in their debt. --GR

Thank you for all your sacrifices! All doctors are working countless hours everyday to save the better of humanity. Being a doctor is never easy but during these hard times it’s the more remarkable seeing them do their jobs. These doctors risk there life to save us and we really appreciate that.
Doctors have risked their lives every day to save our lives. To me that’s one key part of being an American is putting people before yourself first and they show that everyday they do their job by risking their lives for us. I will keep praying for you and your families!
First off I wanted to say thank you for putting yourself on the line everyday. You don’t have to help people the way you do, but you want to. Especially during this time with the virus. My sister was in the hospital so I’m very thankful for all the doctors that helped her throughout the years.
